IDOMA NATION ON THE PLATEAU REINSTATE HISTORIC COVENANT WITH STATE GOVERNMENT  By Matthew Owoicho Abah

The  Community Based Development Organization of highly populated Idoma people in Plateau State have reinstated their historical affinity with Plateau State people as well as their democratic support for the state government under Governor Caleb Manasseh Mutfwang while demanding for a reciprocative partnership with the government. This proposition came to the forefront when the Senior Special Assistant to the Governor on Middle Belt Ethnic Nationalities, Hon Dan Kwada was hosted to an interactive session by the organization.

At the event attended by Plateau State branch Chairmen and Secretaries of all Idoma District Development Associations in the homeland, Community Leaders on the Plateau and the newly elected EXCO members and President of Idoma Community Development Association (I C D A)  on the Plateau, the President-elect,  Chief Dr. Peter Amede, Patron of the group, Pa Emmanuel Ejaidu and the Acting Ad’ Idoma of Jos, Barr John Musa all re-emphasized the unassailable socio-cultural and political unity that have prevailed between Idoma people of Benue State and Plateau State and promised that all hands will be placed on deck to sustain the support.  They reinstated that it is only such mutual supports for one another that can continue to uplift the kind of inclusive development agenda they desire on the Plateau.

The co-ordinator of the interactive session, Pastor Innocent Akor explained to the gathering that for the purpose of sustaining the pace of infrastructural development and security the present administration under Barr Caleb Mutfwang is putting in place, his Idoma brothers and sisters should continue to mobilize behind the present dispensation in 2027 and thereafter. He requested the SSA to, on behalf of his Idoma brothers and sisters on the Plateau, request His Excellency, the governor to further demonstrate his fabled sense of humility by presenting the staff of office to the newly elected President of Idoma Community Development Association on the Plateau on the day of his inauguration.

An elder Statesman and Idoma Community Leader in attendance at the event, Major Gabriel Adofikwu (retrd) advised both the visiting SSA to the Governor and his Idoma brothers and sisters that in view of the cod of history that binds Plateau and Idoma people together, the parties have no other options than to work together for the mutual interests of both of their peoples. He told the gathering that Idoma people’s multi billion naira investments on the Plateau in real estates and varied industries make mutual cooperation between them and the state government inevitable. He praised the governance principles of Barr Caleb Mutfwang which are anchored on people focused leadership traits as against political brinkmanship and urged the people to support the government during the 2027 elections as promised.

In his response to the promised support and demands of Idoma nation on the Plateau, Hon Kwada expressed the gratitude of the state government and it’s leadership, emphasizing that it will definitely encourage the governor to achieve more developmental strides. He said the administration of Governor Caleb Mutfwang has a long history of cordial relationship with Idoma people on the Plateau and recalled the respectful closeness that existed between the late Ad’ Idoma of Jos and the Executive Governor before his passage on hunting expedition. He described the shock the news of the late Ad’Idoma’s departure brought to bear on His Excellency.. He also drew attention to the Governor’s democratic credentials and said his Excellency values constructive criticism when there are basis to do so but also expects humble praises when it is earned. According to him, all the promises and requests will be conveyed to His Excellency with the highest degree of responsibility.
