Plateau State based members of Ochetoha K’Idoma, the socio-cultural elite group that stands up to the developmental challenges of Idoma land and the Nigerian Nation played hosts to members of the public and awarded honors to a select number of the group while thanking God for the year 2021 at the Millennium Village Garden, Rayfield, Jos, 29th January 2022.
Highlights of the occasion included the reeling out of the gamuts of societal, professional and nation-building developmental escapades of the six members of the group who were selected to receive this year’s Award for Excellence.
They are: (1), Professor John Idoko, the Adjunct Professor of Global Health at Northwestern University, Chicago, Illinois, USA and eastwhile Director General of National Agency for the Control of AIDS (NACA), who is deservedly credited in the annals of history for providing credible leadership for the Federal Agency’s epochal achievement of reducing Nigeria’s HIV National Prevalence Rate from 5% to 1.4%. (2) Professor Godwin Owoicho Akpa, the face of Educational Planning and Control in
Nigerian Universities who led the Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU), University of Jos branch, between 2000 and 2002 while exhibiting his leadership acumen at various strata of the Ivory Towers, including the Kwararafa (Jubilee) University Wukari, where he was the Vice Chancellor between 2007-2012, and left a marked development history.
(3), Professor Amale Adikwu, a fellow of both the West African College of Surgeons and the National Postgraduate Medical College of Nigeria in Otorhinolaryngology, who now works at the Federal University of Health Sciences Otukpo, Benue State, after many human development engagements at various levels of educational and development focused organizations, (4), Dr. Rapheal Onu Ojoh, the amiable Consultant and Family Physician who graduated as a Medical Doctor from University of Jos and has not only worked at the University of Jos Teaching Hospital but is more popularly known as the People’s Doctor whose prestigious Living. Spring Hospital is on record to be the most Idoma Friendly hospital on the Plateau,
(5), Dr. Innocent Onaji, the Industrial Microbiologist, Doctor of Philosophy who harvested his Doctorate Degree in Microbiology in 2018 with uncommon zeal to impact on his people’s lives which has come to fruition through the gallant roles he plays on the home land in general and in Owukpa district in particular, and (6) ACP/BARR Gabriel Allah-Anana Onu, a rare gem of Law and order, trained combatant, epitome of humane heartedness, fairness and justice motivator and disciplinary advocate who is a Lawyer and an Assistant Commissioner of Police, to the quiet admiration of many of many and the pride of his people in the homeland. An array of the awardees and their families were adequately represented.
The Chairman of Jos branch of the group Mr. John-Mary Idoko who played host with exemplifying humility thanked his Executive Council Members for a successful collective journey through 2021 and the Awardees for the qualities that stood them out for their recognition, while spraying to God to sustain them. The Awardees thanked the group for their recognition and prayed for the sustenance of Nigeria and Idoma Nation in these trying times.
Present at the event were the creams and the balms of the Nigerian society in general and the ones of Idoma extraction in particular, majority of whom are members of the group. Significantly present were members of the top management of staff of the Federal University of Health Sciences, Otukpo,, ((FUSHO), Benue State, lead by the Vice Chancellor of the institutions, Professor (Dr) Innocent A O. Ujah mni, Engr Benson Onajji, Professor Ogoh Alubo, Dr. Emmanuel Owobi, Mr. Ikama Omlagi, I.S. Agada, Moses Scheme, Mr and Mrs George Agbo, Arch Barry Uloko, Matthias Akor and Professor Godwin I Adoga amongst others.
Owukpa Community Cultural troop provided traditional music and scintillating dances which kept most guests at the edges of their seats.
