The slaughtering of hundreds of children and adults by the worst species of terrorists being dignified with the identity of “unknown gunmen” in three local government areas of Plateau State in Nigeria on 29th December 2023 should mark the arrival moment of which way the nation should go from henceforth. Taking into timely consideration, the broad view of where we are coming from, where we are now and the destiny-imposed political leadership headed by President Ahmed Bola Tinubu, the man who has seen almost about everything a global leader would aspire to learn from, the blood of Plateau’s hundreds and Nigeria’s thousands must now act as the nation’s intoxicant for the make-or-mare movement. What can be worse than this! The initial casualty figures from the wars between Russia and Ukraine and Hamas and Israel, each of which activated the United Nations Organization into turbulent sessions that have combined to upturn its underbelly of decisiveness or the lack of it cannot be described as being incomparable to the one Nigeria has suffered in the months just before and since their outbreaks. Are some lives more important than others!? Are human lives valued by their nations’ socio-economic relevance in the international capital market or their existential evolutions?
Why is the Nigerian defining moment on the on-going genocide in the nation’s Middle Belt region in the main, and other parts of the country has to be now? The answer is that President Bola Tinubu is the “product of destiny” that God has to use for this purpose even at his own unwillingness. This is because the blatant lie that the pogrom going on in Nigeria today is between Muslims and Christians must be unveiled by no other personality than the one God has presently conferred on President Tinubu – Muslim-Muslim presidency, yes!, former exiled NADECO leader, fait-mixed family background and an attention-garnering major player in the books of tenertiously popular world-based organizations. Unless, of course, if it is truly a religious program, the cap still fits him even better, so the Nigeria-breaking war would be credited to him.

Mohammed Sambo Haruna, leading a delegation of Muslim Ummas on a solidarity visit to Plateau State Governor Mutfwang authoritatively cleared the air about massacres unfolding in Plateau State and other parts of the beleaguered nation being at the behest of true Muslims, insisting that the clandestine origins of these agents of death is also a mystery to Islamic leaders like him. The National Question is therefore, where is this audacious punching of Nigeria’s Armed Forces, its Commander-in-Chief and citizen’s nose coming from?
It is self deceptive to continue to ignore the widely expressed belief amongst Nigerians that elements of the nation’s Armed Forces are complicit to the killings and that there are sponsors behind the crime. Their long term motives may range from morbid hunger for political power clothed in religiosity which can usually find fertile grounds of recruitment from poverty sedated social environments as we have in Nigeria today. Recruitments into the various arms bearing security agencies of the nation is pervaded with corrupt practices and .an underpaid military and civil servants. A wholesome probe in this direction, subsequent of course to confessions by arrested broods of murderers and determined elimination of their accomplices and sponsors may yet nip the bug in the bud. The complicity theory of elements of the nation’s security agencies has been re-emphasized on the heels of the Plateau bloodletting by a voice that should not be ignored by any unbiased minded leader. A retired Army General who once headed Operation Safe Haven, a creation of government aimed at reining in the Plateau debacle said at a TV interview session in the heat of the recent killings that he had noticed the possibility of complicity of armed personnel in the killings when he headed the outfit and had explicitly mentioned it during his hand over note to the Military. What happened to that report?

The Plateau massacre must not go the way of others. The facts and figures must be put on the table and used to placate the spirits of the dead, assuage the minds of their loved ones and give hope to all Nigerians. The slaughtering went on for all of about forty-eight hours. The nation’s Defense Headquarters, according to a report by The Cable news of December 29th, confirmed that about thirty distress calls were made to the Military during the attacks, but ostensibly because the terrain was bad, the Military could not respond early enough! The Nigerian Army, as well as other security agencies were prevented from going to prevent an avoidable massacre simply because the terrain was insurmountable by the Armed Forces of Africa’s most populous nation?
Amnesty International, in its reaction to the killing orgy was quoted to have urged the Federal Government to urgently order a painstaking probe into it. Its. country Director, Isa Sanusi said, “the Nigerian authority must investigate the inexcusable security lapses that allowed the horrific killing of 140 (later confirmed to be 200) people by gun men across over twenty villages. Our investigations show that the gun men were on rampage of killing and destruction for more than forty-eight hours moving from one village to another”. There can be no better brutally frank way to put it.
